Growing up in Alaska I have seen a lot of guests to this state. Most have a good idea of what to expect. But some have NO IDEA. So please take a few minutes and read this little section.
As I said I grew up here. I have, like most Alaskans gone on a number of Paid charter fishing trips. And let me tell you I have seen a lot of things. From people dressed in suits and dresses to sandals and shorts with no other clothes with them. Well, this might be ok in the Florida Keys or Hawaii but this is neither of those locations.
Most booking agent try to give you some idea of what to bring, but as the season goes on thing's get missed, due to the extreme volume of calls in the busy season.
This is a little note from a good friend's web site and yes this was a true statement, "once heard a couple from California (no offense) ask a booking agent if the boats go out when it is raining".
Please people, this is why we all ask you to read and ask Questions. Oh and by the way the answer is YES we do go out in the rain, wind and even sometimes snow.
The ride out is fast The AK 4 Star travels at 30 knots. The trip lasts about 2 l/2 hours or so. We all wish we did not have to travel so far but that's the way this is if we want to limit out. One very nice thing about fishing Prince Wiliam Sound is that it is very protected, This means usually calm waters for you.
Now that that has been said a little bad news is in order, I prefer not to do Combo trips. Its just to hard on me and you to find your limit of fish. You see most fish are caught in a very short time period, and that's up to the fish not me. It seams fish are a lot like us they eat when they are ready and not until. We can help there a little, I fish with Jigs not bait. I will explain on the boat but trust me you want be sorry, sore and tired yes but it is worth it.
The trip starts at 7am when we leave port and return around 6pm. Limits of the flat ones is our goal but don't forget all the other types of fish out there. Black bass, Lingcod, Rockfish. This makes for a very nice fish fry. We also offer a long range trip for those that like open water. Of course this does cost more and it is also up to Mother Nature if we can get out there.
As it says, we fish for two days. How it works is this. We leave at 6 PM and return at 6 AM the next day. you get to fish for your limit for both days.
LET'S GO!!!! Oh, sorry I get a little carried away. When we find them the fight is hard and long. Eat your Wheatie's you are going to need them. We have a 50/50 chance of landing the brut. I fish with a min of 4 fishermen and you can bring 2 guests. This is explained in the pricing section.
Mid July to August is the best. Full and half day charters are available, depending on where the fish are. All 5 species are found in the sound.
Blackstone is the closest tide water Glacier to Whittier. You will spend about 1 hour at the glacier and then return, we also will stop at the Kittiwake Rookery
Here you can spend up to 3 hours looking at the glaciers caving and look for wildlife both on and off water. This is up to you and the ice. Leaving there we will run through Ester Passage and make a stop off at the hatchery to see salmon eagles and sometimes Black bears. Then leave the hatchery and head for home with a stop at the Kittiwake rookery.
Whales, Sea lions. Seals, Puffins Bears, Dear are just some of what can be found on these trips. We run a long way on these trips; Whales and Sea loins and Puffins are just about 98% of the time. Bears and Dear about 50%. Depending on how long you want to watch these great animals we can also swing into the only working Oyster Farm in Prince William Sound. We also have a chance to stop in to one of the prettiest bays in the sound and see the Herring Saltery as it stands today. This entire concourse depends on what you want to see and do and Mother Nature.
It is the responsibility of the hunters to look up any and all regulations for the area and animal they are going to hunt. We are only a drop off service.
